The National Association of Minority Contractors: Past and Present
Date: February 1, 2024
The Building Electrification Clubhouse, in collaboration with Design As Built, hosted a critical event that explored the role of the National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC) and the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) in leading the building electrification transition. This gathering focused on ensuring a just transition for BIPOC tradespeople in the East Bay, addressing the intersection of social equity and sustainable building practices.
The event delved into the historical context of NAMC and CBTU, tracing their roots to the Civil Rights movement, and examined their current efforts to shape the construction industry. Discussions centered on specific pathways for local minority contractors to lead the electrification transition, including opportunities arising from the Federal Inflation Reduction Act funds becoming available in California. Attendees gained insights into strategies for translating these funds into strong business opportunities and wage increases for BIPOC tradespeople in the Bay Area, highlighting the importance of equitable participation in the growing field of building electrification.
Participants:
Panelists: Mark Hall (Revalue.io CEO, NAMC Northern CA Board Member), Mario Wagner (NAMC VP for Northern CA)
